Our health starts with our habits and tweaking your life for the better can happen in small changes. Most of us are chronically dehydrated and overfed on processed sugars which serve to deplete our energy (and cause us to get mad hangry). We have habits of over-working ourselves, both during our play and work times. SO we’ve decided to break this week’s intention into 3 sub-sections which we were comb over in the next few weeks so we can go really in depth in each subject. The breakdowns are:
Here we go. Week 3a: WATER HACKS
1) Drink a liter of water first thing. One of the best ways to get your body going in the morning is replenish your fluids - water first thing helps kick start your digestion system into action (helping with the morning poops!). I recommend buying a large water bottle (I have this Nalgene) and filling it before bed. PLACE IT WITHIN ARMS REACH OF YOUR BED. We are lazy puppies in the morning and the more we can pre-prep our hydration, the more likely we are to drink water.
2) Spice up your water. If you find yourself craving sugary drinks through the day, try infusing your water! You can simple with a lemon or a handful of mint or you can go crazy and find a million different combos. I find that cucumbers, lemon, mint, and basil are the cheapest options but berries are a really decadent treat (and you can use frozen ones!)
Possible flavor combos:
- Cucumber & Basil
- Lemon & Lavender
- Basil & Melon
- Mango & Mint
- Lemon & Mint
3) MORE MORE MORE. Kyle & I drink up to a gallon of water in a day. I know that sounds insane but in reality, I just drink 3 Nalgenes and I stay relatively active. I drink approximately 1.4 liters in the morning and adjust everything after that to what activities I am doing that day and how hot/ & humid it is.
I want to stress that everyone’s water needs are unique and I am not a medical professional. But if you are more active and it’s hot out, you are going to drink more water. Your pee is going to be one of the best measurements of your hydration, try to stay in the clearer end of the spectrum and be vigilant about sipping throughout the day.
And again, BIG WATER BOTTLES ARE KEY. I personally drink way more water when it is easily and readily available.
Kyle & Sara
