This has been a been a tumultuous week for a lot of us. We are simultaneously wound up and exhausted. If we are to go forward with our efforts to fight for our causes, we need to to incorporate self care into our regimens. In order to help heal, we must start with ourselves. Self healing allows us to have the energy to go forth and fight and support others. How to do this? Become ritualistic. Make time to make time.
Rather than saying you'll meditate, just do it. Just sit up, light a candle, and notice your breathing. Notice things around you, notice the sounds and the temperature. Close your eyes. Drink in your breathe. Big exhale. Soften the jaw, the face muscles. Let the natural breathing return. Count your breaths. Then let go of that too. Set a timer for 5, 10, 20 minutes. Don't wait til you are in times of peril to start
Your self care is your's. Take your time, don't rush the healing. Take baths, draw, journal, do nothing, stretch, knit, make something, burn something. Drink tea, coffee, big gulps of water. Don't force it, but don't neglect it. Sometimes you just need a minute, give yourself that time. Do not feel sorry. Nourish yourself so you can sprout and share your harvest. Do not wait for the rains to come, be the rain.
