4 -7 - 8 Breathing

hey my pranayama mamas, here's a short video on the 4 - 7 - 8 breathing technique. this technique is great for relieving stress and relaxation, it's especially relaxing at the end of a yoga practice or before bed time. 

if you are unfamiliar with pranayama, it is the Sanskrit word for breathing techniques. the word can be broken into two roots:

prana - vital life force; energy
yama - restraint; self control

so essentially, pranayama refers to the controlling of our vital life energies through various breathing techniques, in which we harness the airflow going in and out of our bodies. if you are new to breathing techniques, this is a great one to start with. if you cannot hold your breath or feel out of breath during this exercise, simply shorten the amount of time you hold your breathe for and build up to a 4 -7 - 8 breathing technique
